SEO Tips For Endless Site Traffic...
By: John Skorczewski
Hello,
In Last Week's Issue I talked to you
about a services that claim to send clicks to your web site and how you might want to steer clear of such services. This week I want to talk to you about SEO
and how to use it to drive an endless stream of targeted visitors to your web site.
For the small web site operator on a budget, there's nothing better than SEO (short for Search Engine Optimization). If you can manage to get your
web site listed within the top ten at the major search engines (under high traffic keywords), you can pretty much sit back and
watch the traffic come pouring in.
The problem is, it's very hard to get your web site listed under any given keyword...competition is fierce. You may have a web site about
dog training and want to get your site listed under the keyword "Dog Training". The problem is, there are 50,000 other web sites that
want to be listed under that keyword.
What can you do?
This is sort of my specialty...As you know, I created one of the earliest Search Engine Submission tools
out there, the Submission-Spider, and we've been selling it steadily for nearly a decade. So I've seen all the SEO fads come and go...all the guru's come and
go...heck many of the search engines themselves come and go....
I'll tell you a little secret about my company. We don't spend a whole lot of advertising....and we don't spend any money at all
on PPC's (I know, I know...I really should). We get most of our sales through word of mouth and free search engine traffic.
It's crazy, I know...but getting web sites listed well on the search engines has almost single handedly provided a very nice living
for me.... the goal of this week's article is to give you the tools to do the same.
Yes, you will need a toolkit to get your site listed well at the search engines...don't worry, most of the tools you will need are
low cost or cheap.
First...you need a way to pick the right keywords. It doesn't matter at all if you are ranked number 1 under the keyword
"dog collar"...if only 12 people search for the keyword "dog collar" each month. Believe it or not, you can easily research
keywords, find out how popular a keyword is, how often people search for it at the major search engines each month etc.
The first tool I recommend is my own Submission-Spider, it has a really
easy to use interface to the overture keyword tool...you can use this feature of my software f'ree for ten days in the trial.
So download it and give it a try (at least for the ten days). This tool will show you how often people search for
a given keyword each month. It's extremely important to know that number, all your efforts hinge on that.
The next keyword tool you need is the Google Adwords Keyword Tool...
This lets you enter a keyword, and then gives you back a list of other keywords that may relate to that word. Did I mention
it's f'ree? It's great for drawing up a list of keywords, which you then feed into the Submission-Spider keyword tool I mentioned above to
see how popular each word is.
Next I recommend using some sort of spreadsheet program to keep track of your list of keywords. Excel is nice,
but whatever you have handy will work. I recommend you just create a list of the keywords, and how often each keyword is
searched for each month. Then you can print out your list and study them at your own leisure. It's important to study
them, because you need to build a list of keywords that truly represents your web site.
Next week I'll talk about picking the right keywords and optimizing your web site to focus on those keywords that you've
selected.
That's all for this week. See you next Monday!
