How To Get A Better Search Engine Ranking...
By: John Skorczewski
Hello,
I think I've caught every single bug that's gone around this winter. I'm still sick with the cold
I had last week...that's really unusual because I rarely get sick...weird! How are you making
out this flu season? Better that me I hope!
Last Issue I talked to you about how to
turn your site visitors into customers.
This week I want to talk to you search engine traffic.
There's really no better way, in my opinion, to get tons of quality traffic to your web site
on a consistent basis then by search engine submission....a fact you know well if you're
one of the thousands of people who use my Submission-Spider
Search Engine Submission Software.
The one catch? You have to have a high ranking on those search engines in order to really cash in
on massive traffic.
Everyone and their mother has a theory on the best way to get a good ranking. I've talked about this
before here and in eBooks.
Which theory should you listen to? I don't know...I don't really want to give you another theory
that may or may not work....today I want to give you a simple "tool" that you can easily use to
help give you the knowledge you need to be successful with the search engines.
I say "tool" but it's not really a physical tool...more like a series of things you can do that will clear
away some of the mystical mist that surrounds search engine submission.
So here goes....first....go download and install the free Google Toolbar here.
You'll need that because it will show you two very important things....(PR and backlinks)... for any site you visit.
Now, let's say you have a web site about dog grooming....and you desperately want to get listed at the
search engines under the keyword phrase "Dog Grooming"....what do you do?
This may sound crazy...but....you.....go....to....GOOGLE.
ooooooh.....yes, start at Google. Go there and simply type in the phrase Dog Grooming.
What pops up? A list of sites about Dog Grooming....more specifically, the top ten sites about Dog
Grooming.
So what? Well...those are the sites you have to "Beat" in order to get a top ten ranking. So go
look at them! So few people put in this leg work, they just submit their site and then start complaining
when they aren't listed in the top ten.
Look at those sites....is your site better then them? You know what I mean by better...do they have
better content? Better graphics....are they better? If so you've got some work cut out for you.
But more importantly, you have to look at 2 things....their site's PR (PageRank as shown to you
by the Google Toolbar that you installed earlier), and "BackLinks".
On the Google Tool bar that you just installed (you DID install it didn't you?) you'll see a little round
blue circle with the letter "i" in it. Click it, and a menu pops up....one item on the menu is "backlinks",
click that and it will show you all the other web sites LINKING to that web site.
AHA! The magic number! If the number one web site on google under the phrase Dog Grooming has
138 web sites linking to it...don't you think that maybe if you want to be ranked HIGHER than that site,
you just might need MORE than 138 web sites linking to your web site?
Hey, you're really on to something there......
Now you have a goal...now you have a plan....now you know that you need to build a web site comparable
in content to the site listed at Google, and you need at least (or more than) 138 web sites linking to
your site before you can think about getting your site ranked higher that THAT site.
All the nutty search engine submission theories sort of melt away in the face of this kind of hard data,
don't you think?
Yes, we're talking about a lot of work here....but not really...it only takes a couple of minutes to
find out this info using the Google Toolbar....the real hard work is getting sites to link to you...but
that's a matter for another issue!
That's all for this week. See you next Monday!
