Pop-Up Marketing, Is It Dead?
By: John Skorczewski
Hello,
Happy October to you!
Last Week I talked to you about the importance of linking if you want
serious traffic from the major search engines. This week
I want to talk to you about pop up messages.
I love pop-ups. Everyone in the world hates them....sure, I understand that, but I LOVE Pop-ups.
If you've been reading this rag for a while, you know that I love pop-ups because they work great! When I use
them to offer a free subscription to this ezine, my subscription rate jumps like you wouldn't believe.
So I love pop-ups.
But there's been a war raging for the last year between legitimate marketers (like myself) and pop-up blockers.
....and the pop-up blockers are winning.
It's inevitable. Marketing tactics always change over time, that's what makes this such an interesting profession.
And now I'm declaring that it's time to change tactics as far as pop-ups are concerned.
The final nail in the coffin was the latest Windows update by Microsoft (service pack 2) that you and tens of millions
of other people received automatically (if you have Windows automatic update turned on) within the last couple of months.
Service pack 2 comes with a built in pop-up blocker. Uh-huh.
Microsoft says no more pop-ups....wise man finds other means of marketing besides pop-ups!!
There's lot's of other options and my office will begin testing them right away and I'll let you know of the
best alternatives that we come up with. I'm talking about things like stylesheet flying pop-unders and
things like this that the pop-up blockers can't stop.
Whether you agree with using pop-ups or not (and why wouldn't you if they're used responsibly and gain
absolute results), it's important to keep up on the latest trends and how they affect your business.
That's all for this week. See you next Monday!
