Did You Do It Yet??!!

March! Spring is just around the corner....I love winter but I'm ready for a little spring, let me tell you!
In Last Week's Issue I talked to you about follow-up
marketing and how you could be losing a ton of sales if you don't do it.
So did you do it? Did you start your own follow-up program?
Nope....I didn't think so....
Everyone I tell about follow-up marketing loves it! A light bulb goes off....one of those great "AH-HA!" moments
washes across their face....
Then a month later when I ask them how it's going they mumble about not ever getting started.
There's just something weird with the psychology of starting a follow-up program.
It doesn't really cost you anything, and it can bring in thousands of extra dollars for your business per
year....I go so far as to say that it's the single most important part of any business....but people WON'T
DO IT!
It makes me crazy....I wonder why I even bother to keep writing this newsletter....well, let's not get that
crazy!
But it does bother me.....so let's take a first step together today...you and me....let me FORCE you
onto the path of riches....
Here's what I want you to do.....TODAY....right now.....Dig up all your past customer or client records.
If you've only got 7 past customers, start there.....if you've got 4,000 past customers, grab the latest 100.
We're taking a baby step here.....
Next I want you to get yourself some sort of database program....excel is great, microsoft WORKS is ok...
anything that has a spreadsheet of some kind.
Next I want you to open your spreadsheet and start manually entering customer fields.... One field
per box on the spreadsheet....first name in one box...last name in the next box....address in the
next box....city in the next box...State in the next box...zip code in the next box....and the product
they bought from you in the next box (if you want to get fancy you can enter the date they bought in
another box).
So your spread sheet will look something like this:
John Doe 13 Chester Street Beverly Hills CA 90210 SuperWidget2000
Then on the next line enter the next customer.
DO THIS....enter as many customers into this file as you can....if you have a ton to enter, tell yourself
that you'll enter 20 per day till you get it done (or hire some kid to do it for you).
Be sure to save the file....and now every single time you get a new customer, enter their info IMMEDIATELY
into that file.
I know you don't believe me when I say this, but that file will become your number one asset! You'll believe
me eventually....or maybe you'll just go bankrupt for not listening to me! ;-)
After you've got all your customers entered into that spreadsheet...the next baby step is to learn how
to print out customized letters to everyone on that list....that's your next step.
I don't know which program you'll be using, so I can't help you there...this will be the hardest step....I understand
that....you have to just soldier through and figure it out or find someone to help you....
I don't care if you have to take a class at the local community college to do this....learn how!
Next we're going to send out one letter....just one to get you started. It will say something like this:
Dear (MERGED CUSTOMER NAME),
This is John Skorczewski (enter your own name here), a while back you bought a SuperWidget2000
from me.
How's it working out for you? Did you run into any problems or have any questions? If so
I hope you'll call me and let me help you with it.
I was sitting in my office last week and I realized that if you needed our SuperWidget2000, you
might possibly need our BabbleWidget 3000 which will help.......(explain the main benefits
of the other product and tell why the customer would want it)....
Normally the BabbleWidget3000 sells for $98....but since you're a past customer I'd like to
offer you a discount of $20. (you pay just $78)
Why would I do that? Well....to tell you the truth, I'd really like it if you became a steady
customer...and I'd like to bribe you to that end!
