Google's New Backdoor
By: John Skorczewski
Hello,
Before I get started today I just want to thank everyone who emailed me about my new nephew,
the little guy is home from the hospital and the new family is settling in and everything is settling down.
In Last Week's Issue I talked to you
about my fifth step in building an Internet business, today I want to diverge for a special Google announcement....
I'm taking a break from the step by step guide that I've been bringing you these last 5 weeks because of something new
that I've stumbled upon that I HAD to tell you about immediately.
If you've been online for very long you know how very VERY important it is to get your site listed at
Google. It's the number one search engine in the world, and getting your site listed there can drive
thousands of free visitors to your site.
The problem is, if you submit your site to Google, it can take 4-8 weeks or longer to get listed.
In past issues I've discussed strategies for cutting
that time down dramatically....(for instance, getting a link on another site that is already listed at Google can cut down the wait time).
But now Google has actually announced a backdoor that can get your site listed very soon...sometimes overnight.
Google hardly ever actually comes right out and TELLS us how to do something...we usually have to just guess and
experiment like crazy to learn anything...
So what's the backdoor? It's called "Google Sitemaps" and you can learn all about it
Here.
Basically, you create a Google Sitemaps account, then create an XML sitemap, then upload that
sitemap to Google. Google will immediately spider your site and away you go!
Question...what the heck is an XML sitemap? Good question.
XML is short for Extensible Markup Language....it's like HTML only a little more complicated.
You can search for tutorials to describe it better...here's one
to get you started.
Don't worry, Google gives you all the instruction you'll need....you're going to need an XML sitemap generator. Since
Google has announced this, several high priced products have sprang forth that will do this for you...I found
several that will do it for free....here's a list:
- http://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.asp
- http://sourceforge.net/projects/goog-sitemapgen/
That should get you started at least....
Now I'm not going to lie to you...this is all a little complicated....you're gonna have to do some reading
but it's really really really gonna be worth it!
I recommend you head over to the site that Google has set up and start reading. They've
got a great F.A.Q. and help section to read, Here
That's all for this week. See you next Monday!
