Google PageRank Update!
By: John Skorczewski
Hello,
Hope your summer is going well. Sorry I didn't send out an issue last week but, well....it's summer.... what can I say?
I promise to make it up to you this week with a good article about Google...
In Last Week's Issue I talked to you
about the dreaded Summer Sales Meltdown and how to save yourself from it.
So last week Google updated their PageRank....they do this every once in a while....and everyone usually freaks out
while this is going on.
Of course, people freak out for good reason! PageRank is one of the most important things in the world. If you
have a high PageRank, Google will rank you well and you'll get tons of great free traffic. Whenever Google
updates their PageRank system, you never know if your site will gain PageRank or LOSE PageRank (of course,
you could break even and stay the same too).
We did pretty well in this update. We didn't lose any ground, we stayed about the same across the board
on all our sites...and we gained a little on most of our newer sites. I'm pretty happy.
Most people I've talked to weren't that lucky. In fact, most lost a lot of PageRank. I've talked to people that went
from a PageRank 5 or 6, down to a PageRank 2.
They're mad....as you might expect!
But why did they drop? And how can you hedge yourself to make sure the same thing never happens to you?
It's pretty easy actually. Well, the concept is easy....
Why did people lose lots of PageRank? Because they used the latest "tricks" to inflate their PageRank.
The fine folks at Google aren't idiots. They know people "game" their system by creating false links, using
link farms, paying for links that are from sites that don't relate to their own...and on and on....
The problem is, these "tricks" work....for a very short time.....then, as more and more people use them, Google
notices the "tricks" more and more. When it finally gets out of control, Google makes an "update" to the
PageRank and all those sites lose their PageRank...
And woe woe woe! Those people are mad as hell!
There's only one way to get a high search engine ranking that stays consistently high...for years and years...
and that's to build a GOOD WEB SITE...that has lot's of relevant content, that real people find useful....also
get as many real people with real web sites to link to you. Don't use linking "tricks" if you want long term
ranking.
I love it when Google updates their PageRank (or anything for that matter) because it shakes out the rabble
and boosts all my web sites.... if you look at it this way, you can't help but smile all the way to the bank.
That's all for this week. See you next Monday!
